Lignins are types of fibre found mainly in plant food such as whole grains,beans, peas, carrots, tomatoes and potato. They have various beneficial effects, such anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal activity. They are a nutrient and can also help to lower cholesterol levels and prevent the formation of gallstones by binding with the bile acids

Plant lignins are converted in the intestines into two compounds, enterolactone and enterodiol which protect from cancer. They are especially beneficial in protecting cancer of the colon and breast cancer.
